Guardians of the Trails

The Guardians of the Trails program is dedicated to preserving and caring for the unique landscapes of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. The Guardians work on the ground each day—clearing invasive species, maintaining trails, and collecting native seeds—while also supporting visitors and keeping the park accessible. Their work helps protect native ecosystems and ensures that the park remains a place of connection and discovery.

This short documentary captures both the physical dedication and the spirit of community within the program. The Guardians’ daily routines include warm-ups, safety check-ins, and shared encouragement, reflecting their commitment not only to conservation but also to one another. Through this video, I aimed to highlight the resilience, collaboration, and cultural respect that define the Guardians’ role in protecting the park for generations to come.
